E-refinery: Naar duurzame productie van chemicaliën en brandstoffen

De energietransitie heeft verstrekkende gevolgen voor de procesindustrie. In het e-Refinery-instituut van TU Delft werkt een groot aantal onderzoekers van diverse expertises – in samenwerkingen met de industrie en andere onderzoeksinstituten – aan de benodigde technologieën en expertise. Het onderzoek richt zich op de elektrochemische omzetting van duurzame elektriciteit, water en lucht in brandstoffen en chemische bouwstenen. Dit gebeurt zowel op moleculaire schaal, op de schaal van apparaten als in de vorm van grootschalige systeemintegratie. De implementatie van e-Refinery komt tegemoet aan drie belangrijke uitdagingen waarmee de samenleving wordt geconfronteerd: een gedefossiliseerde chemische industrie, CO2-neutrale brandstoffen en seizoensgebonden energieopslag.

Collaboration with industry
I have been cooperating with a range of industrial partners, including Shell, Unilever, BASF, AstraZeneca, FrieslandCampina, DSM, Merck, Sabic, Rhodia, Essent, Nuon, Nouryon, and Tendris. I have co‐founded the spin‐out company Delft Intensified Materials Production (Delft IMP), operational from January 2015.
